GEORGES LEADS CALDWELL TO FIRST WIN OF SEASON

N.J. - Caldwell College junior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal,
NJ/Spotswood), left, scored a career-high 24 points as the Cougars
defeated Dowling College, 74-60 in a non-conference game Sunday
afternoon at the George R. Newman Center. The win is the first of the
season for the Cougars (1-4) and the 298th victory for head coach
Mark Corino in 18 seasons at Caldwell. It is also Corino's 393rd
career win in 23 seasons. The Golden Lions drop to 1-2 overall with the
loss.
After trailing early in the game, the Cougars took control of the game
with a 9-2 run that make the score 27-20 with just under five minutes
left in the half. The Cougars closed out the half with nine straight
points, including a three-pointer and lay-up from Georges, to take a
35-28 lead into the locker room.
After the Golden Lions tallied the first four points of the second half,
baskets by sophomore forwards Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg
Harbor) and B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) and a three
from sophomore guard Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) put
the Cougars up 45-29. Caldwell took its largest lead of the game thanks
to Georges, who made two three-pointers and a free throw in a span of 39
seconds for a 57-36 advantage. Dowling worked the lead down to 11 points
three times but were unable to get any closer.
Georges went 5-of-6 from three-point range to help the Cougars make 72.7
percent (8-of-11) from beyond the arc, including a perfect 5-of-5 in the
second half. Georges, whose previous career-best was 21 points, recorded
seven rebounds and four steals in the win. Suchy also turned in a strong
performance with a career-high 18 points and a team-best eight boards.
Sophomore guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship)
recorded career highs of nine points and seven assists. The Golden Lions
were led by forward Raheim Lowery, who scored 24 points and grabbed 12
rebounds in the loss.
 Corino,
right, now stands just seven wins away from becoming the second active
men's college basketball coach in New Jersey to achieve 400 career
victories.
The Cougars begin play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference on
Tuesday, Nov. 29, when they play at N.J.I.T., beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Both the men's game and women's game, which starts at 6:00 p.m., will be
