2-9-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College senior guard Mark Kelly
(Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) was selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District 2 third team by members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced
today. Kelly, who has a 3.74 grade-point average as a Math Education
major at the College, was one of 17 men's basketball players included in
the College Division of the Academic All-District 2 squads, consisting
of NCAA Division II and III institutions located in Delaware, Maryland,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. He
is the only member on the 2006 Academic All-District 2 College Division
teams from an NCAA Division II institution.
This season Kelly is averaging 8.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest
while starting 13 of the Cougars' 24 games this season. He is among the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference leaders in three-pointers made
(45) and three-point field goal percentage (.388). In 75 career games
over two-plus seasons at Caldwell College, Kelly has made 123-of-301
from three-point range in his career to rank fifth all-time at Caldwell
in both threes made and shooting percentage from beyond the arc (.409).
His 615 career points place him 26th on the Cougars' all-time scoring
list.
Last
season Kelly was included on the inaugural CACC All-Academic Team for
the winter sports season, which requires a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America and All-District teams,
student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative
GPA of 3.20 or higher, have reached sophomore status and be nominated by
their sports information director. Those selected to the Academic
All-District first team will be considered for Academic All-America
honors. Voting is done by the 2,000-plus members of CoSIDA, an
organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for
colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Kelly and the Cougars (13-11 overall, 9-7 CACC) travel to Waterbury,
Conn., for a CACC game with Post University tonight, starting at 8:00
p.m.
