OLIVIERI TO PLAY BASKETBALL AT CALDWELL COLLEGE
5-4-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - Kevin Olivieri of Old Bridge, N.J., and
Cardinal McCarrick High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to
play basketball at Caldwell College, head men's basketball coach Mark
Corino announced. Olivieri, a 6-foot-2 guard, will enroll at
Caldwell College for the 2005-06 academic year.
Olivieri scored 1,078 points in two seasons at Cardinal McCarrick in
South Amboy, N.J., leading his team to a pair of Greater Middlesex
County Blue Division championships as well as a South Jersey state title
as a senior. He twice earned first-team all-Middlesex County honors from
the Star-Ledger and first-team all-Area accolades from the
Home News Tribune. As a senior, Olivieri averaged 22.7 points, five
rebounds, five assists and two steals per game to be named team MVP for
Cardinal McCarrick, which went 23-4. He also excels in the classroom,
having made the honor roll multiple times.
"I really liked the coaching staff and the team," Olivieri said of the
Cougars, who went 17-15 this past season and advanced to the finals of
the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. "They are a
really young team that got better as the year went on, and I want to be
a part of that."
"We're very excited to have Kevin join our program," Corino said. "He
has the potential to really help us on the perimeter, and he's an
excellent student."
The Cougars lost three seniors this spring, including third-team all-CACC
guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central), who averaged 14.2
points and 3.1 steals per game last season.
