COUGAR MEN TABBED FOR THIRD BY CACC PRESEASON POLL
11-9-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team received 96 points and
a pair of first-place votes to rank third in the 2006-07 Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, released today. All 11 of
the league's head coaches were included in the voting, which predicts
Bloomfield College will capture its fourth consecutive CACC crown.
The Cougars, coached by Mark Corino, went 18-13 last season and
finished in third place in the CACC for the second year in a row with a
conference record of 14-8. In the CACC Tournament, the second-seeded
Cougars were upset by Dominican College, seeded seventh, in the
quarterfinals. Three starters are back from that team, including a pair
of second team all-CACC honorees in senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal,
NJ/Spotswood) and junior forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg
Harbor). Georges, who also earned first team all-Met accolades, led the
Cougars in scoring at 17.3 points per game to rank seventh in the
conference last year. Perez, pictured, averaged 16.1 points and a
team-best 6.3 rebounds per contest en route to becoming the first Cougar
to score over 1,000 points before his junior season. A two-time member
of the all-Met second team, Perez ranks 12th on Caldwell's all-time
scoring list with 1,015 career points.
Also back is junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our
Savior), who averaged 8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a
sophomore. Suchy tallied a game-high 15 points in Wednesday's exhibition
game at Rutgers University.
Caldwell plays its final exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 11, when the
Cougars play Seton Hall University in the Pirates' regular-season
opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Continental Airlines
Arena.
