CRICELLI CHOSEN CACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

12-18-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman forward Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham) was named  the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 17, the league announce today. Cricelli helped the Cougars earn a  conference win over Wilmington College on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Cricelli, a 6-7 forward, tallied a career-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field as Caldwell defeated the Wildcats, 83-76 in the George R. Newman Center. He also had six rebounds and two steals in the win, which snapped a two-game losing streak. On the season, Cricelli is averaging 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent from the field.

Cricelli becomes the first Caldwell men's basketball player to receive the conference's Rookie of the Week honor since the CACC began the award at the start of the 2005-06 season. Also earning honors this week were junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) and sophomore forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic), who received honorable mention from the CACC for men's and women's basketball, respectively.

Cricelli and the Cougars travel to New Hampshire this week for a pair of non-conference games. Caldwell faces St. Anselm College on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7:00 p.m., then plays Franklin Pierce College on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6:00 p.m.
