N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team dropped an 80-76
decision in overtime at Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference clash Thursday night. Senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood)
led the Cougars with 19 points as four Caldwell players scored in double
figures in the loss. The Cougars are now 7-7 in the CACC and 12-9 overall,
while Felician improves to 10-11, 8-6 CACC.
With Caldwell leading 62-61, a pair of free throws by Georges gave
the Cougars a 64-61 advantage with 45 seconds left in regulation. On
Felician's next possession, Jason Romer hit a three-pointer with 31
seconds remaining to tie the game at 64-64. Both teams missed field
goal attempts before time expired, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, a three from Georges had the Cougars in front
69-68 with 3:47 on the clock. But Felician answered with seven
consecutive points, including a three-pointer by Jason James, that
put the Golden Falcons on top 75-69 with 43 seconds left. Caldwell
managed to pull to within two points twice in the game's final
seconds, but two free throws by Derrell Thomas with four seconds
remaining clinched the victory for Felician.
The Cougars opened the game with a 16-4 run and led by as many as 13
points in the first half before taking a 37-25 advantage into the
break. Georges had nine points and freshman forward Sam Cricelli
(Brighton, England/Culham) recorded eight points and nine boards in
the first half. Caldwell led by as many as 15 points in the second
half before a 21-5 spree gave Felician its first lead of the game,
52-51 at the 8:55 mark. The lead changed hands seven times the rest
of the second half, before Romer's three sent the game into
overtime.
Georges made 5-of-7 from three-point range en route to 19 points to
lead the Cougars. Cricelli finished with 13 points and 16 boards for
his third double-double of the season. Also contributing for
Caldwell were junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our
Savior) with 15 points and junior guard Adam Sabree (Detroit,
MI/Renaissance), pictured, with 11 points. James and Michael Pierrot
each had 19 for Felician.
The Cougars host Dominican College in a CACC battle on Monday, Feb.
5. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
