GEORGES SELECTED CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
2-26-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) was
chosen the men's basketball Player of the Week by the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference for the week ending Feb. 25, the conference
announced today. Georges, who also was named to the all-CACC first team
earlier today, helped the Cougars win a pair of home games last week to
clinch fifth place in the CACC standings.
Georges averaged 26.0 points while shooting 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from
the field for the week. In Tuesday's 73-54 victory over Nyack, Georges
tallied a career-high 34 points while making all 12 of his attempts from
the free throw line. The performance allowed Georges to become just the
fifth men's basketball player at Caldwell to total 1,000 points over two
consecutive seasons. Then on Saturday in his final home game at
Caldwell, he led his team to a 53-52 triumph over Goldey-Beacom College
with a game-high 18 points. The win gave the Cougars the fifth seed in
this week's CACC Tournament.
Georges leads the Cougars in scoring at 18.3
points per game this season, which ranks fifth in the CACC. He also
paces the CACC in three-point shooting, making 43.4 percent of his
attempts from beyond the arc. Despite being one of the conference's top
players for the past two years, this is the first time Georges has
received Player of the Week accolades from the CACC. He joins junior
forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) as Cougar men's
basketball players to have earned the conference's weekly honor this
season. Caldwell's
fifth leading scorer all-time with 1,381 career points, Georges also
ranks third in three-pointers made with 165.
Georges leads the Cougars (16-11 overall, 11-9 CACC) into Tuesday's CACC
Tournament first-round match-up with fourth-seeded Goldey-Beacom College
in Wilmington, Del. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Jones
Center.
