PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Holy Family
University, 77-63 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday
night. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the CACC,
while the Tigers improve to 10-3, 5-1 CACC.
A 10-0 run midway through the first half allowed Holy Family to lead
23-12 with 8:28 left in the half. But the Cougars were able to pull
to within two after a 13-3 spree made the score 31-29 with 2:10 on
the clock. A technical foul called after a dunk by Holy Family's
Bruce Davenport gave Caldwell two free throws and the ball. But the
Cougars missed both foul shots and failed to score on the ensuing
possession. Ryan Lancaster hit a three and Davenport made another
basket to give the Tigers a 38-29 lead at the break.
Five points by senior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal,
NJ/Spotswood) and two from junior forward B.J. Suchy
(Ronkonkoma, NJ/Our Savior), left, in the first two minutes of the
second half helped the Cougars cut the lead to 40-36. Holy Family
answered with an 11-2 spurt for a 51-38 advantage, then followed a
three-pointer by junior guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship)
with 12 straight points to take a commanding 63-41 lead with 7:16 to
play.
Four Cougars scored in double figures, led by Suchy's 17 points.
Georges finished with 16 points, and sophomore center Michael
Luzzi (Mount Arlington, NJ/Morris Catholic) and freshman forward
Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham) each scored 10
points. Junior guard Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance)
grabbed six rebounds to lead the Cougars on the glass. Lancaster led
all scorers with 19 points, and Edward Greene-Long had 16 points and
12 boards for the Tigers. Greene-Long scored all 16 of his points in
the second half.
Up next for Caldwell is a conference home game against Philadelphia
University on Thursday, Jan. 11. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. in
the George R. Newman Center.
