USP UPENDS CALDWELL IN MEN'S BASKETBALL, 65-52

Pa. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team dropped a Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to the University of Sciences,
65-52 Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena. With the loss, the
Cougars fall to 5-3 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in
conference play, while the Devils improve to 3-4 overall, 3-2 CACC.
The Cougars scored the game's first nine points and jumped out to a
17-4 lead, buoyed by three-pointers from senior guard Jean
Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood), freshman guard John Reed
(Wall, NJ/Wall) and junior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma,
NY/Our Savior). But the Devils picked away at the lead, eventually
reducing it to on, 29-28 on William Kurtz's three-pointer with seven
second left in the half.
USP opened the second half with a 10-4 run to take a 38-33 advantage
with 13:39 to play. The Cougars answered with a 10-2 run of their
own, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Georges and Suchy
that put Caldwell ahead 43-40 at the 11:12 mark. But USP scored the
next 11 points to take a 51-43 lead and break the game open. The
Cougars never got closer than eight points the rest of the way, as
the Devils won for the second time in three games.
Suchy, last week's CACC Player of the Week, led all scorers with 18
points to go with nine rebounds. Georges finished with 13 points,
while freshman forward Sam Cricelli (Brighton, England/Culham)
recorded four steals to go with eight points and eight boards. Five
players scored in double-figures for USP, led by Eric Cangelosi (15)
and Kurtz (14). The Devils shot 57.1 percent in the second half,
compared to 39.1 percent for the Cougars.
Caldwell is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when the Cougars
host Wilmington College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 1:00
p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
