PEREZ, SUCHY NAMED ALL-CACC IN MEN'S HOOPS
2-26-08
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Junior forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor
Twp.) and senior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior New
American) were honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference on the
all-CACC Men's Basketball teams, which were released today. Perez was
selected to the second team for the third time in his career, while Suchy
received all-CACC honorable mention.
A 6-7 forward, Perez currently leads the Cougars in scoring and rebounding,
averaging 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. He also ranks first in
the conference in field goal percentage (.543) and second in free throw
shooting (.833) so far this season despite missing the first five games due
to injury. An all-CACC second team selection in 2005 and 2006, Perez has
returned from a serious injury that also sidelined him for all but two games
of last season. He has scored 1,335 points in his career to rank sixth on
the Cougars' all-time scoring list. He was selected CACC Player of the Week
on Jan. 7.
Suchy, a 6-6 forward who made the all-CACC third team a year ago, is
averaging 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this season while ranking
11th in the conference in field goal shooting (.470). He has scored at least
20 points six times this season, including a career-high 26-point
performance against Fayetteville State on Dec. 1. Earlier this year, Suchy
became the 14th men's basketball player to score 1,000 career points,
eclipsing the milestone in a game against Southern New Hampshire on Dec. 22.
He currently ranks eighth all-time at Caldwell with 1,213 career points.
The Cougars, who are 10-16 overall and 8-7 in the CACC, host Nyack in the
regular-season finale on Wednesday, Feb. 27, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Caldwell
will play Dominican in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Saturday,
Mar. 1. Time and site have yet to be determined.
