SUCHY SCORES 22 IN COUGARS' 75-68 TRIUMPH AT NYACK

N.Y. - Senior forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior New
American) tallied 22 points and seven rebounds as the Caldwell College men's
basketball team earned a 75-68 victory over Nyack College in an important
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Saturday night at Nyack's
Bowman Gymnasium. The result keeps the Cougars (10-13) in second place in
the CACC North Division standings, one game behind Post University, with an
8-5 conference record. The Warriors (10-13) drop into a tie for fourth with
Bloomfield College at 5-7.
Nyack jumped out to a 22-15 lead after a basket by Sheanan Martinez with
just over eight minutes to play in the first half. But five points from
Suchy and a three-pointer by freshman guard Dante Rollins (East
Orange, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) sparked an 11-4 Caldwell run that tied the game,
26-26 with 5:44 left in the half. After a jumper by Nyack's Valient Jones, a
three from sophomore forward Tyler Emmons (Portland, ME/Portland)
helped the Cougars close out the half with an 8-2 run that made the score
34-30 at the break.
Caldwell continued to shoot well from long range in the second half, as a
three-pointer by senior guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middle
Twp.) started a 10-2 spree for the Cougars that put them ahead 44-32 four
minutes into the second half. Caldwell maintained the upper hand, leading
55-44 following a conventional three-point play by senior guard Adam
Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) at the 10:25 mark. Back-to-back threes
from Jose Lopez and a basket by Brandon Coerbell pulled the Warriors to
within three, 55-52 midway through the second half. But Wise hit another
three to answer for Caldwell, which built its lead back up to as many as 10
points down the stretch to wrap up its second straight win over a CACC North
opponent.
Suchy made 7-of-12 from the field, including two three-pointers, on his way
to a game-high 22 points. Junior forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor
Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) scored 13 points, and Sabree added 12 points in
the win. Wise contributed nine points, four assists and two steals. Jones
finished with 16 points to pace Nyack.
The Cougars play a non-conference game at Dowling College on Tuesday, Feb.
12, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Oakdale, N.Y.
