PEREZ SELECTED CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
1-7-08
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Junior forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor
Twp.) was chosen the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Men's
Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6, the league
announced today. Perez averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per
game as the Cougars went 2-1 last week.
Perez shot the ball well in all three games, making 54.8 percent (17-of-31)
from the field and 96.3 percent (26-of-27) from the free throw line. Against
the University of Bridgeport on Jan. 2, he set a new CACC record by hitting
all 17 of his attempts from the line en route to 25 points to go with 10
rebounds and two blocks. Perez, who ended up making 22 straight free throws
over four games, also held the old mark of 16 in a game, set during his
freshman year against Felician on Feb. 5, 2005.
In a 74-57 victory over Wilmington College on Jan. 5, Perez shot 61.5
percent (8-of-13) from the floor while making 9-of-10 from the charity
stripe for his second 25-point performance of the week. He also blocked
three shots in the win. Perez contributed 10 points and four rebounds to
Caldwell's 69-67 victory over Queens College on Jan. 3 that ended a
seven-game losing streak.
After missing all but two games last season due to injury, Perez returned to
the Cougars' lineup on Dec. 15 this season. Through eight games, he is
averaging a team-best 14.6 points per game. A two-time all-CACC and all-Met
selection, Perez has scored 1,142 points in his career to rank 10th all-time
at Caldwell.
Perez and the Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 8 with a home game
against the University of the Sciences in a rematch of last year's CACC
Tournament final, won by Caldwell. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. in the
George R. Newman Center.
