1-27-09
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College senior forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) added to his collection of weekly awards as he was selected the ECAC Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25, the organization announced today. Earlier this week, Perez was chosen the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Week and was included on the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association's weekly Honor Roll.

A 6-7 senior forward, Perez averaged 27.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in two conference victories last week. In an 86-83 home triumph over Chestnut Hill College on Jan. 20, Perez poured in a career-high 35 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. He went 11-of-18 from the field and 13-of-17 from the line to eclipse his previous career best by one point. Then on Saturday, Jan. 24, Perez made 9-of-11 from the floor en route to 19 points and 11 boards in a 78-74 victory at Nyack College. For the week, Perez shot 69.0 percent from the field.

Perez leads the Cougars in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He paces the CACC in field goal percentage at 56.6 percent while ranking second in scoring and fourth in rebounding. His offensive performance against Chestnut Hill allowed him to become the fourth men’s basketball player at Caldwell to score 1,600 career points. He now has 1,620 points in his career.

The ECAC's membership includes 320 colleges and universities from Maine to Georgia and westerly to Illinois. Caldwell student-athletes have received weekly and year-end honors from the ECAC since joining the organization in 2004, and the men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's basketball teams have competed in ECAC championship tournaments.

Perez and the Cougars play at Post University on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in another CACC match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
