CALDWELL MEN'S BASKETBALL TO PLAY EXHIBITION GAME AT RUTGERS

11-10-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team will play an exhibition game against Division I Rutgers University on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. This is the third time in four years that the Cougars have faced the Scarlet Knights in a preseason match-up, following games in 2005 and 2006.

Monday's game will be the first time Cougar fans will get a look at the 2008-09 squad, which has nine players back from last year's team that finished 12-17 and advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinals. Three-time all-CACC and all-Met forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), right, returns for his senior season after leading the Cougars with 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a junior. He has scored 1,370 points in his career to rank sixth on Caldwell's all-time scoring list. Seniors Carl Augustin (Stony Point, NY/Don Bosco Prep) and Michael Luzzi (Mt. Arlington, NJ/Morris Catholic) also return to lead a young team that features six incoming freshmen.

Rutgers went 11-20 overall and 3-15 in the Big East Conference last season. Former Caldwell assistant coaches Dennis Gregory and Phil Dyer currently are on head coach Fred Hill's staff at Rutgers.
