CALDWELL ANNOUNCES 2008-09 MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

9-24-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - An exhibition game at Rutgers University and the Caldwell College Holiday Classic highlight the Caldwell College men's basketball schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season. The Cougars will host 13 home games at the George R. Newman Center this season, including the four-college, co-ed Caldwell College Holiday Classic on Dec. 19-20.

The Cougars, coached by Mark A. Corino, start things off with an exhibition game against Division I Rutgers University on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Louis Brown Athletic Center (The RAC). This is the third time in four years that Caldwell and the Scarlet Knights have met in the preseason. The regular season gets underway on Saturday, Nov. 15 with a home game against Molloy College in a doubleheader with the Cougar women's team. The Cougars play three games in Colorado, including two at the Colorado School of Mines Tournament in Denver Nov. 21-22. The first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game is on Tuesday, Dec. 2 against Felician College in the Newman Center.

In the Caldwell College Holiday Classic, Caldwell will face Queens College on Dec. 19 and Mercy College on Dec. 20. Both men's and women's teams from Caldwell, Queens, Mercy and Felician will participate in the two-day tournament. The third tournament on the schedule is at Gannon University in Erie, Penn., with the Cougars facing the host Knights on Dec. 29 and playing either Seton Hill University or Shippensburg University on Dec. 30.

The conference schedule picks up after the New Year, with rival Bloomfield College coming to the Newman Center on Jan. 8, defending CACC champion Philadelphia on Jan. 10, and Holy Family University on Feb. 14, to highlight a few of the match-ups. The Tigers eliminated the Cougars in the semifinals of the CACC Tournament last year. The first round of the CACC Tournament will be on Mar. 3 at campus sites, with the semifinals and finals at Philadelphia University on Mar. 6-7.

The Cougars return nine players, including three-time all-CACC second team forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), from last year's squad that went 12-17 overall and finished second in the CACC North Division.
