
COUGARS PICK UP FIRST WIN IN FRANCE, 73-68

DOAZIT, France – Sophomore forward Sam Cricelli
(Brighton, England/Culham) scored 16 points and senior guard
Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) tallied 15 points as
the Caldwell College men’s basketball team defeated
Hagetmau-Doazit, 73-68 Tuesday evening in the Sports Complex in
Doazit. The victory was the first in three games for the
Cougars, who finish their exhibition slate on Thursday in
Bayonne.
After leading for the
entire first quarter, Caldwell fell behind by as many as seven
points in the second quarter before battling back to tie the
game at 26-26 with 4:45 left in the half. A lay-up by Cricelli
and a pair of free throws from junior center Michael Luzzi
(Mount Arlington, NJ/Morris Catholic) put Caldwell ahead 37-34
at halftime. In the third quarter, a 10-2 run to open the period
gave the Cougars an 11-point advantage, 47-36. The lead grew to
as many as 12 points before Doazit cut the lead to just two with
five minutes to play in the game. But a pair of baskets by
Sabree sparked a 13-1 spree that was capped by a three-pointer
from senior guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship)
and put the Cougars ahead to stay, 72-62.
Wise finished with 12 points and four assists, with sophomore
John Reed (Wall, NJ/Wall) made three three-pointers en route
to 11 points. Luzzi snared a team-best 10 boards, with Cricelli
grabbing nine.
The Cougars play Denek-Urcuit in Bayonne, France at 2:00 p.m.
