FOUR COUGARS RECEIVE ALL-CACC HONORS

11-3-04

CALDWELL, N.J. - Four members of the Caldwell College men's soccer team were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's all-conference teams, the league announced Wednesday. Sophomore forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) (left) was the only Cougar selected to the All-CACC first team, while sophomore midfielder Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru) and freshman defenders Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) and Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) received All-CACC second team accolades. During the season, each of Caldwell's four honorees were chosen the conference's Player of the Week

Skjelstad leads the Cougars in scoring with nine goals and six assists for 24 points in 16 games. His hat trick against Southampton College on Sept. 23 gave Caldwell a 3-1 win and earned him CACC and ECAC Player of the Week honors. Ibarcena (right) is the Cougars' top playmaker with eight assists, and also ranks second on the team in points with 12.

Fraser made an immediate impact in his freshman campaign, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to beat Bentley College in his first collegiate game. His other goal this season proved to be the game-winner in last night's CACC Tournament first round victory over Wilmington College. Jiras is tied for second on the team in goals with four despite playing outside fullback for the entire season. His two-goal game against Goldey-Beacom on Oct. 2 helped the Cougars come back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the Lightning.

After last night's victory, the fifth-seeded Cougars (12-6-2) advance to the CACC semifinals to play top-seeded Dominican College on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. The semifinals as well as Saturday's final will be played at Felician's Tryon Field in Rutherford, N.J.
