JIRAS IS FOURTH COUGAR CHOSEN CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

10-5-04

Freshman Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for men's soccer, becoming the fourth Cougar to receive the honor in the first five weeks of the 2004 season.

Jiras, who has three goals on the season, scored a pair of goals in a 3-3 tie against Goldey-Beacom last Saturday, including the game-tying goal in the 85th minute that completed the Cougars' comeback from a 3-1 deficit. The defender also played a significant role in a pair of shutouts against Nyack and Concordia earlier in the week as Caldwell improved to 5-2-2 on the season (1-1-2 CACC).

The Cougars moved up a spot in the NSCAA/adidas Regional Rankings and are now eighth in the New England Region, according to the new rankings released today.

Jiras follows sophomore Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) from last week, sophomore Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru) from Week 3 and freshman Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) from Week 1 as the conference's Player of the Week. The Cougars did not play a game during Week 2.

Caldwell College's men's soccer team next plays at Teikyo Post on Tuesday, Oct. 5 in a CACC match. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
