CALDWELL TABBED FOR FOURTH IN CACC MEN'S SOCCER PRESEASON POLL8-22-05 CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference by the league's nine head coaches in the 2005 CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Cougars, who took fifth and advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament in 2004, received two first-place votes.
Head coach Jamie Nash has 16 players back from last season's team that went 13-8-2 (3-3-2 CACC) to set a school record for wins. Junior forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway), a second team NSCAA All-New England Region and first team all-CACC selection, is one of eight returning starters, along with all-CACC second team members Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's), Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru) and Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru). Last season the Cougars appeared in the regional rankings for the first time in the program's history, finishing seventh in the final rankings.
Dominican, the defending CACC champions, received four first-place votes en route to earning the top spot in the preseason poll.
The Caldwell College men's soccer team opens the season on Sept. 4-5 at the Merrimack College Tournament, which will be held at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. The Cougars' first home game is Thursday, Sept. 8, when they host No. 9 Franklin Pierce College at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
