COUGARS HANG ON TO DEFEAT KUTZTOWN10-22-05
Freshman forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion), making his first start of the season, put the Cougars on the board just one minute, four seconds into the game with his first collegiate goal. Then in the 11th minute, junior forward J.P. Herring (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), pictured, gave Caldwell a 2-0 advantage with his third goal of the season and second tally in as many games. Kutztown pulled to within a goal on Jose Castro's goal in the 37th minute. But senior midfielder Chris Parshelunis (Brick, NJ/St. Rose) restored the Cougars' two-goal lead with his second goal of the season in the 48th minute. Castro made things interesting near the end of the second half with his second goal of the game in the 84th minute, but the Golden Bears were unable to notch the equalizer before time expired.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) made five saves for Caldwell, while Kutztown's Ryan Kratz recorded two saves.
The Cougars, who are ranked sixth in the latest New England Region rankings, will play at Post University on Monday, Oct. 24, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate game originally scheduled for Oct. 8.
