MEN'S SOCCER RANKED 24TH IN NATION

9-6-05

CALDWELL, N.J. - For the first time in the 15-year history of the program, the Caldwell College men's soccer team is ranked among the nation's top 25 teams. The Cougars are ranked No. 24 in the NSCAA/adidas Division II National Rankings, released today. Additionally, Caldwell is ranked third in the New England Region, which is also the program's highest regional ranking. Last season the Cougars were ranked as high as seventh in the region.

The Cougars, coached by Jamie Nash, went 1-1 this weekend at the Merrimack College Tournament, hosted by St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. On Sunday the Cougars opened the 2005 season with a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Merrimack, the top-ranked team in the New England Region. Junior forward J.P. Herring (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) scored off a pass from junior forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) in the 14th minute for the game's only goal. Skjelstad tallied a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to St. Anselm.

Next up for the No. 24 Cougars is the home opener against Franklin Pierce College on Thursday, Sept. 8. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
