NYACK,
N.Y. - Senior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange)
scored twice, and freshman midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe,
NJ/Monroe) recorded two assists as the Caldwell College men's soccer
team defeated Nyack College, 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Mosely Field. The Cougars are
now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Warriors drop to 1-4,
0-1 CACC.
Nyack put the Cougars down 1-0 with an unassisted goal by Eric
Martinez in the 25th minute. But four minutes later, Dauti netted
the equalizer when junior midfielder Nicholas Harriott (St.
Catherine, Jamaica/Campion) raced down the left side and passed the
ball to Dauti. Dauti, last year's leading scorer with 16 goals, beat
Nyack goalkeeper Jack Carillo to his left with a left-footed blast
that found the right side of the goal for his first tally of the
season.
The game remained tied until halftime, but the Cougars wasted little
time in scoring what would be the game-winning goal. Miller
collected a loose ball and lofted a crossing pass into the penalty
area, where sophomore forward Chad Bennett (Kingston,
Jamaica/Campion) headed the ball into the goal. The freshman Miller
then connected with Dauti in the 78th minute with a pass up that
middle that sprung Dauti in alone on the goalkeeper. Dauti put a
shot into the right side of the goal for his second of the game and
a 3-1 Caldwell lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made a
season-high six saves to preserve the win for Caldwell, while
Carillo made seven saves for Nyack. The Cougars out-shot the
Warriors 14-12 for the game.
Next up for Caldwell is a CACC match with Post University in the
Cougars' home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 9. Game time is set for
12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field, with the women's game against the
College of St. Rose to follow at 2:00 p.m.
