MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS ST. ANSELM, 3-1

CALDWELL, N.J. - Sophomore forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another to help the Caldwell College men's soccer team beat St. Anselm College, 3-1 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field.  The win ends a two-game losing streak and evens the Cougars' record at 3-3 on the season. The Hawks fall to 2-5-1.

Freshman midfielder Justin Miller (Monroe, NJ/Monroe) put Caldwell on the scoreboard in the 40th minute with his first collegiate goal. Miller took a pass from Bennett and fired a shot from the right side that slid under the goalkeeper and into the goal. The score remained 1-0 into the second half until St. Anselm's Tim Hubbard scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to tie the score at 1-1.

The eventual game-winner came in the 77th minute, when senior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) one-timed a throw-in from junior defender Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) to Bennett, who blasted a shot into the left side of the goal for a 2-1 lead. Dauti scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute when he collected a pass from senior forward Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) to the left of the goal and curved the ball into the lower right corner for his third tally of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) made two saves for Caldwell, and the Hawks' Tim Galligan recorded five saves in the loss.

Next up for Caldwell is a non-conference game at Bloomfield College on Monday, Sept. 18. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
