MEN'S SOCCER PICKED THIRD IN CACC PRESEASON POLL

8-19-07

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team was selected third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches. The Cougars received one first place vote and 80 total points, five behind second-place Wilmington College. Three-time defending conference champion Dominican College was picked first with 93 points.

The Cougars return six starters from last season's team that finished with a record of 12-6-1 and placed fourth in the CACC standings. Caldwell, coached by Jamie Nash, advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament for the fourth straight season in 2006. Among the returnees is senior defender Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's), a three-time all-CACC selection and two-time all-Northeast Region honoree. Two-time all-CACC defender Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion), the team's leading returning scorer, also are back.

Chestnut Hill College joins the conference this season after winning the NEAC championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2006.

The Cougars begin the 2007 season at the Franklin Pierce University Tournament on Aug. 30.
