11-4-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College men's soccer players Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's),
Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Campion) and Jan Marco Jiras
(Lima, Peru) were selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District 2 first team by members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the first time
on the Academic All-District team for Fraser, while Harriott and
Jiras were first-team honorees in 2006.
Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at
least 3.20 and be a starter or significant reserve to be nominated.
Fraser, Harriott, Jiras and the other first team all-District honorees will
be on the ballot for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American
teams.
Fraser, a four-time all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
defender, is an accounting major at Caldwell. He has earned a spot
on the CACC All-Academic Team two times for posting a cumulative
grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. A four-year starter for the Cougars,
Fraser also has been named to the all-New England Region team twice while
anchoring the Cougars' back line. This past season, he helped lead a
defense that recorded eight shutouts while allowing 21 goals in
20 games. In his stellar career at Caldwell, Fraser recorded
six goals and five assists for 17 points in 78 games.
Harriott, a senior midfielder, makes his second straight appearance
on the Academic All-District first team. A biology major, Harriott
also is a two-time member of the CACC All-Academic Team. He played
in 66 games with 37 starts for the Cougars, tallying six goals and
nine assists for 21 points. Last fall, Harriott was named to the
CACC all-Tournament Team. He also was chosen an Arthur Ashe Scholar
Athlete by Diverse Magazine.
Jiras is a three-time all-CACC second team choice who is majoring in
business administration at Caldwell. A starting defender for three seasons, Jiras
played center midfielder this season and started 15 games, tallying
a goal and three assists for five points. Like Fraser and Harriott,
Jiras has made the CACC All-Academic Team twice. He also earned ESPN
the Magazine Academic All-District first team honors in 2006 after
making the second team in 2005. This past spring, Jiras joined
Harriott as an
Arthur Ashe Scholar Athlete. He totaled nine goals
and eight assists for 26 points in 68 career games.
Fraser, Harriott and Jiras are a part of a senior class that won 47
games during their careers, the most victories in any four-year
period in the history of the men's soccer program at Caldwell. The
Cougars finished 10-6-4 this past fall and advanced to the CACC
Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight year.
