CALDWELL,
N.J. - The all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer
teams include four Caldwell College players, the league announced
today. Senior defender Andrew Fraser (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's)
and junior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion)
made the first team, senior midfielder Jan Marco Jiras (Lima,
Peru) was chosen to the second team, and junior goalkeeper John
Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) received honorable mention.
Fraser, a four-time all-CACC honoree, makes his third straight
appearance on the first team. A four-year starter for the Cougars,
Fraser also has been named to the all-New England Region team twice while
anchoring the Cougars' back line. This season, he has helped lead a
defense that has recorded eight shutouts while allowing 20 goals in
19 games. A two-time member of the CACC All-Academic Team, which
requires a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or higher, Fraser has
six goals and five assists for 17 points in 77 games at Caldwell.
Bennett is the Cougars' leading scorer this season with 10 goals and
one assist for 21 points. An all-CACC second team selection in 2006,
Bennett has two game-winning goals, including an overtime golden
goal in a 2-1 victory over Molloy on Sept. 13. For his heroics,
Bennett was chosen the CACC co-Player of the Week on Sept. 17. In 45
career games at Caldwell, Bennett has tallied 19 goals and six
assists for 44 points.
Jiras earns a spot on the all-CACC second team for the third time in
his four-year career. A starting defender for three seasons, Jiras
played center midfielder this season and started 15 games, tallying
a goal and three assists for five points. Like his classmate Fraser,
Jiras has made the CACC All-Academic Team twice. He also earned ESPN
the Magazine Academic All-District first team honors in 2006 after
making the second team in 2005. This past spring, Jiras was named an
Arthur Ashe Scholar Athlete by Diverse Magazine. He has nine goals
and eight assists for 26 points in 67 career games.
This is the first appearance on the all-CACC team for Plaugic, who
has played every minute of every game in goal for the Cougars this
season. His eight shutouts rank first in the CACC, while his goals
against average of 0.99 also ranks among the best in the league.
After shutouts against American International and Nyack College,
Plaugic was selected the CACC Player of the Week on Oct. 15.
The Cougars (10-5-4), who defeated Bloomfield College 2-0 today in
the first round of the CACC Tournament, will play Wilmington College
on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the semifinals. Game time is set for 1:30
p.m. at Tryon Field
in Rutherford, N.J.
