CALDWELL MEN'S SOCCER SELECTED THIRD IN CACC PRESEASON POLL

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's 2008 Preseason Poll, released today. The Cougars, who took third in the conference last season after posting a 6-1-2 mark, received 89 points in the poll conducted by the league's 11 head coaches to rank behind Wilmington University and Dominican College.

The Cougars, coached by Jamie  Nash, finished the 2007 season 10-6-4 overall and advanced to the CACC Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight year. Leading the team's 17 returning players from last year is senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion), pictured, an all-CACC first team selection who led the Cougars in scoring with 10 goals and one assist for 21 points. Other seniors back for the upcoming season include defenders Kagiso Rhenoster (Mafikeng, South Africa/Mmbatho) and Kevoi Walters (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon), forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) and goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny), who played every minute of every game in goal last season while earning all-CACC honorable mention.

Wilmington, which defeated the Cougars 1-0 in overtime in the semifinals of the CACC Tournament en route to winning the title, received four first-place votes and totaled 113 points to earn the top spot in the Preseason Poll. Dominican garnered five first-places votes and 107 points. Holy Family University, which lost to the Wildcats in the final, received one first-place vote, as did Philadelphia University, which joins the conference after re-classifying to Division II from Division I.

The Cougars begin the 2008 season at the Southern New Hampshire Tournament on Aug. 28 in Manchester, N.H.
