WALTERS, BENNETT NAMED ARTHUR ASHE SCHOLAR ATHLETES BY DIVERSE MAGAZINE

CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College men's soccer players Kevoi Walters
(Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon) and Chad Bennett
(Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) were selected Arthur Ashe Scholar
Athletes by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine, the
publication announced. Walters earned a spot on the men's soccer first team,
while Bennett was included on the second team. Both players graduated from
Caldwell College earlier this month.
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar Athlete Award was created to honor
student-athletes of color who achieve athletically and academically while
contributing to the community and on campus. The award is named after the
late world-renowned tennis player who became an activist for civil rights
around the world after his playing career ended. To be included, students
have to compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade
point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their
communities.
Walters majored in mathematics and chemistry at Caldwell and was involved
with the College's International Student Organization while also working as
a tutor and in the admissions department. A four-year player for the Cougar
men's soccer team, Walters recorded four goals and an assist as a senior to
help lead Caldwell to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
regular-season title. He had nine goals and six assists for 24 points in 67
career games for the Cougars, Also a standout in the classroom, Walters
earned CACC All-Academic honors three times for maintaining a cumulative
grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Bennett, a business management major, had an outstanding senior season for
the Cougars last fall. He scored a team-best 13 goals to go with four
assists for 30 points and was selected the CACC Men's Soccer Player of the
Year. A two-time all-Region performer and a three-time all-CACC honoree,
Bennett finished his career with 32 goals and 10 assists for 74 points in 64
games for the Cougars.
