BENNETT SELECTED CACC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

10-20-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19, the conference announced today. Bennett led the Cougars to a pair of conference wins, registering three goals and one assist for seven points.

Bennett helped Caldwell hand Bloomfield College its first CACC loss of the season with two goals in a 3-2 victory on Thursday at Watessing Park. With the Cougars trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, Bennett drew a foul in the penalty area and converted the penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. A little over five minutes later, he finished a crossing pass from senior defender Kagiso Rhenoster (Mafikeng, South Africa/Mmbatho) to put he Cougars ahead to stay. In Saturday's 3-0 shutout of Philadelphia University, Bennett one-timed a pass from senior forward Luis Sartorio (Asuncion, Paraguay/St. Benedict's Prep) into the goal for what would prove to be the game-winning goal. He also set up Sartorio's goal later in the game for his third assist on the season.

Bennett leads the Cougars in goals with 11 and points with 25. This is the fourth CACC Player of the Week award for Bennett, who received the honor twice in 2006 and once in 2007. The two-time all-CACC forward has recorded 30 goals and  nine assists for 69 points in 61 games for Caldwell.

Bennett and the Cougars return to action on Thursday, Oct. 23, when they play a CACC match at Post University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
