BENNETT SCORES TWICE IN CALDWELL'S VICTORY OVER BRIARCLIFFE

Conn. - Senior forward Chad Bennett (Kingston,
Jamaica/Campion) tallied two goals to lead the Caldwell College
men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Briarcliffe College in the
final game of the UB Men's Soccer Classic Sunday afternoon at
Knights Field. With the win, the Cougars snap a two-game losing
streak and improve to 2-2 on the season, while Briarcliffe drops to
0-2.
Bennett, pictured, opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game when
he put home a rebound for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Less than three
minutes later, Briarcliffe tied the score on Alan Acevedo's goal in
the 18th minute. The game remained tied into the second half until
Bennett collected a pass from junior Justin Everett
(Stewartstown, PA/Kennard Dale) and notched his second goal of the
game in the 51st minute. That proved to be the game-winner, as the
Cougar defense kept Briarcliffe off the scoreboard the rest of the
match.
Senior goalkeeper John Plaugic (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) recorded
four saves in goal for Caldwell, while Steven Diaz made seven saves
for Briarcliffe.
Next up for Caldwell is a non-conference match at Molloy College on
Wednesday, Sept. 10. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Rockville
Centre, N.Y.
