MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO NJIT, 8-1
4-9-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team dropped a
dual to N.J.I.T., 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
The Cougars are now 0-3 on the season, while N.J.I.T. is 3-8.
Sophomore Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) improved
his individual singles record to 2-1 after defeating the Highlanders'
Varun Oberoi, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Senior Roman Veselinov (Varna,
Bulgaria/Pushkin) lost a tough battle at No. 4 singles, losing in a
third-set tie-breaker to Mike Lawandy.
Although his team is still looking for its first win of the season, head
coach Da-lai Wu likes the improvement he has seen in his young
team, especially in freshman Bryan Barbato (Haskell, NJ/DePaul
Catholic). "Bryan played his first collegiate match today and he has
shown remarkable progress for someone who hasn't played tennis
competitively before this season."
The Cougars return to action on Sunday, Apr. 10, when they host
Philadelphia University at 1:00 p.m. at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
