N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team lost a close dual with
Ramapo College, 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
The Cougars are now 0-7 on the season, while the Roadrunners are 2-3.
Sophomore Chris Lacuira (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) won his
first match of the season with a three-set victory over previously
unbeaten Scott Seaman at No. 2 singles. Senior Roman Veselinov (Varna,
Bulgaria/Pushkin) (pictured) picked up his team-leading third win of the
season with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Joseph Marino at No. 5
singles. Veselinov teamed with freshman Jan Marco Jiras (Lima,
Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) at third doubles to earn a point for
Caldwell with an 8-4 victory over Paul Jones and Steven Bloom. Sophomore
Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) lost a tough match to
Ross Switkes at No. 1 singles, losing both sets in a tie-breaker.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, Apr. 18, when they host St.
Thomas Aquinas at 3:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
