COUGARS FALL TO RUTGERS-NEWARK IN SEASON OPENER

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis
team began its 2005 season with a 6-3 loss to Rutgers-Newark in a
non-conference dual Tuesday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts. The
Cougars are now 0-1, while the Scarlet Raiders are 2-0 on the season.
Sophomore Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic), pictured, who sat
out last year as a red-shirt, won his first match of the season,
defeating Manish Sojitra in straight sets at No. 1 singles. The Cougars
also picked up a win at No. 5 singles when senior Roman Veselinov
(Varna, Bulgaria/Pushkin) prevailed in three sets over Lukas Rasiej.
Sophomore Chris Lacuira (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) lost a
hard-fought battle with his former high school teammate P.J. Nuqui, 6-3,
5-7, 7-6, at No. 2 singles.
The Cougars' No. 1 doubles tandem of Costa and Lacuira recorded
Caldwell's only win in doubles with an 8-2 victory over Sojitra and
Nuqui.
Caldwell returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 6, when the Cougars play
at Pace University at 3:00 p.m.
