MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS ST. THOMAS AQUINAS FOR FIRST
VICTORY OF THE SEASON

N.J. - The Caldwell College tennis team earned its first victory of the
season with a 7-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College Monday afternoon
at the Caldwell Tennis Courts. The Cougars improved to 1-7 on the season
with the victory.
Sophomore Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) ended his
own four-match losing skid with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jeffrey Boyce at No.
1 singles. Senior Roman Veselinov (Varna, Bulgaria/Pushkin)
improved to 4-4 with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, while freshman
Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) cruised
to his third win of the year, dropping only one game at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Chris Lacuira (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and
freshman Amirpasha Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) (pictured)
both picked up their first singles wins of the season in straight sets
at second and fourth singles, respectively.
In doubles, the Cougars' No. 1 tandem of Costa and Lacuira were
victorious over Boyce and Christian Varas, 8-3, while Jiras and
Veselinov won at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars host Mercy College on Wednesday, Apr. 20 in a dual that was
originally scheduled to be played at Mercy. The dual starts at 3:30 p.m.
at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
