HAMBURGER NAMED HEAD TENNIS COACH/COACH ADMINISTRATOR AT CALDWELL
9-6-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College Executive Director of Athletics Mark A.
Corino has announced the hiring of Bruce Hamburger as head tennis
coach/coach administrator. Hamburger will coach both of Caldwell's men's and
women's tennis programs and also manage the athletic equipment.
Hamburger, a lifelong tennis player and follower of the sport, is a current
member of the United States Tennis Association. He served as the tennis
coordinator of the Long Beach Island Jewish Community Center for five years,
which involved giving tennis lessons and organizing tournaments. College
coaching is not new to Hamburger, who has been a college basketball coach
for the past 22 years. He will also serve as an assistant coach for the
Cougars' men's basketball team.
"I'm very excited to become a part of the Caldwell College community and
work with the student-athletics to help them get the most out of their
college experience," Hamburger said. "Both tennis teams have a strong
foundation of returning players, and I think we can be successful right
away."
Hamburger received his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Kean
University in 1984. He also earned a Master's degree in Counseling Education
in 1987. A native of Maplewood, N.J., Hamburger currently resides in East
Orange.
Caldwell's women's tennis team has five players back from last season's 3-8
squad, including senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern
Valley Regional), who placed second at last year's Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Singles Tournament. The men's team returns all seven
players from last season's record-breaking squad that won a program-best
eight dual matches.
The Cougars' women's tennis team opens its 2006 season on Saturday, Sept. 9
with a dual against Holy Family University. The first match begins at 11:00
a.m. at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts.
