Conn. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team won all nine matches to defeat
Post University, 9-0 in a team dual Sunday afternoon at the Chase School. The
victory is the Cougars' second straight and gives them a 2-3 record on the
season, while the Eagles, a first-year program, fall to 1-4.
Caldwell won all six singles matches in straight sets, with junior Chris
Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic), freshman Mike Ober (Lavellette,
NJ/Point Beach) and sophomore Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) shutting out
their opponents at first, fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Junior
Chris Laciura (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and sophomore Amir Zandieh
(Tehran, Iran/Montville) won straight-set matches at second and fourth
singles, while junior Marcus Collins (Brooklyn, NY/Cobble Hill) picked
up his first singles win of the season, defeating Dan Nadel 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3
singles.
The Cougars also won all three doubles matches, with Jiras and Zandieh
blanking Nadel and Pat Meyer, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Caldwell will face N.J.I.T. on Tuesday, Apr. 11 in Newark, N.J., beginning at
4:00 p.m.
