COUGARS DEFEAT RUTGERS-NEWARK FOR THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY

NEWARK, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis
team downed Rutgers-Newark, 7-2, winning five of six singles matches
and two of three in doubles for the Cougars' third straight dual
victory. The win evens Caldwell's record at 5-5 on the season, while
Rutgers-Newark falls to 6-4.
The Cougars opened the match with doubles wins by juniors Chris
Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and Chris Laciura
(Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) at No. 1 doubles and by sophomores Jan
Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir Zandieh (Tehran,
Iran/Montville). In singles, Costa, Laciura, Zandieh, Jiras and
freshman Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach), pictured, all won their
matches in straight sets. Costa, who has played at No. 1 singles for
the Cougars the past two seasons, improved to 6-4 on the year, while Jiras is now 7-2 playing mostly in the No. 6 position.
The Cougars look to make it four in a row on Tuesday, Apr. 25 with a
match at St. Thomas Aquinas, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
