MEN'S TENNIS WINS FOURTH CONSECUTIVE MATCH

SPARKILL, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team defeated St. Thomas
Aquinas College, 7-2 Tuesday afternoon for its fourth straight victory. The
win gives the Cougars a record of 6-5 on the season, leaving them just one win
away from tying the program's record for most dual victories in a season.
In singles, juniors Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic),
pictured, and Chris Laciura
(Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic), sophomore Amir Zandieh (Tehran,
Iran/Montville) and freshman Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach)
each picked up straight-set victories at first, second, fourth and fifth
singles, respectively. Sophomore Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) won his
match at sixth singles, 8-1. In doubles play, Costa and Laciura cruised to an
8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and Zandieh and Jiras were victorious at No. 2
doubles, 8-3,
The Cougars look to match the victory total of the 2003 squad that finished
7-4 for the most wins in the 12-year history of the program. They get their
first chance to do so on Wednesday, Apr. 26, when they host Post University at
3:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
