USP HALTS COUGARS' WINNING STREAK AT FIVE

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team lost to the
University of Sciences 6-3 in a dual match Saturday afternoon at the Caldwell
Tennis Courts. The loss ends the Cougars' five-match winning streak and drops
their record to 7-6 on the season.
The Devils won two of three in doubles to take a 2-1 lead. Caldwell's No. 2
doubles tandem of sophomores Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir
Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) won their match by a score of 9-7 over
Dave Sen and Samir Faldu. In singles, freshman Mike Ober (Lavallette,
NJ/Point Beach), pictured, defeated Brandon Hocker, 6-4, 6-1 at fifth singles, and Jiras
won his match at sixth singles, 8-1 over Faldu. In a tight match at No. 1
singles, Tyler Weisel edged Caldwell junior Chris Costa (Montville,
NJ/DePaul Catholic), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. USP won matches at second, third and
fourth singles in straight sets to claim the dual.
Next up for the Cougars is a home match with Dowling College on Sunday, Apr.
30. The first matches start at noon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
