CALDWELL SOFTBALL PICKED TO REPEAT AS CACC CHAMPS
2-8-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball
team was tabbed to finish first by the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference's head coaches in the 2005 CACC Softball Preseason Coaches'
Poll. The Cougars, who captured their first-ever CACC title last
season en route to a Northeast Region championship and a spot in the
College Softball World Series, received 10 out of a possible 11
first-place votes in the poll.
Caldwell, ranked ninth in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association
Division II Top 25 Poll, finished the 2004 season with a record of
45-7 (19-1 CACC) and a national ranking of seventh. Head coach Dean Johnson returns 13 of 16 players and seven
starters from that squad, including three first team All-CACC
selections: junior outfielder Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville), junior infielder Jackie Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and
sophomore pitcher/designated player Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic).
Junior infielder Amy Coker
(Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville), a first team All-Northeast Region
selection a year ago, also returns.
The Cougars kick off the 2005 season in Kissimmee, Fla., for the Rebel
Games on March 16-20.
