CALDWELL,
N.J. - For the second year in a row, the Caldwell College softball
team will participate in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region
Tournament, to be held on May 12-15 at LeMoyne College in Syracuse,
N.Y. The Cougars (39-9), who are ranked 11th in the latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, won last
season's Northeast Region Tournament to advance to the College
Softball Series en route to a 45-7 record and No. 7 national ranking.
The Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, received the No. 2 seed behind C.W. Post, which split a doubleheader at Caldwell on Apr. 19. The
other teams in the tournament are No. 3 LeMoyne, No. 4 Dowling
College, No. 5 Bryant College and No. 6 New Haven. As one of the top
two seeds, Caldwell will have a bye before facing the winner of the

This past weekend the Cougars repeated as Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference Tournament champions, having to win three games on Saturday
to defend their title. Junior Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie,
MD/Archbishop Spaulding) pitched a total of 16 2/3 innings on
Saturday to earn the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. She
pitched all 12 innings in Caldwell's 2-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom
College, then won the final game against Georgian Court University,
allowing three hits and a run in 4 2/3 innings to clinch the
tournament for the Cougars.
The winner of the Northeast Region Tournament will be one of eight
