CALDWELL PLACES SEVEN ON ALL-CACC SOFTBALL TEAMS; JOHNSON SELECTED

CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College softball coach Dean Johnson was named
the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Coach of the Year,
the conference announced. Johnson has guided the Cougars to an overall
record of 35-8 and the program's second straight CACC regular-season
title with an 18-2 mark in conference play. It is his fourth CACC
Coach of the Year award in his 11 seasons at Caldwell. Additionally, seven
Cougars were selected to the all-CACC first and second teams.
Four players received all-CACC first-team honors: juniors Amy Coker
(Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville), Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) and Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop
Spaulding) and sophomore Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ/Camden
Catholic).
Coker, a two-time NFCA all-Northeast Region second-baseman, leads the
Cougars in batting (.399), hits (57), runs scored (36) and doubles
(13). She was named the CACC Player of the Week on Apr. 5.
Jackson, who made the all-CACC first team in 2003 and 2004, is hitting
.387 with four homers and 30 runs batted in. Last month, the
right-fielder became the second Cougar ever to be chosen the NFCA/Louisville
Slugger Division II National Player of the Week on Apr. 26.
This is the first all-CACC honor for Saunders, who is 13-5 with an
earned run average of 0.94. In 118 2/3 innings of work, Saunders has
struck out 142 batters while walking 44.
Dahl is a repeat selection to the first team as the designated player.
Dahl leads Caldwell with five home runs and 40 RBI with a slugging
percentage of .611 while batting .345. She also has been the Cougars'
top pitcher with a record of 14-3 and an ERA of 0.83. Dahl twice
received the CACC Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Selected to the all-CACC second team were sophomores Stacy
Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and Jackie Velardi
(Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and freshman Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads,
NY/Horseheads).
Falkowski is hitting .282 with 17 RBI on the season. The third-baseman
has committed just five errors in 70 chances at the hot corner for a
fielding percentage of .929. Velardi, an all-CACC selection as a
freshman, ranks second on the team with 35 RBI while hitting .331.
Flasphaler is batting .323 with a team-high four triples while
starting 38 games in centerfield.
The Cougars, ranked 11th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll,
host the CACC Tournament May 5-7 at Caldwell Field.
