GEORGIAN COURT UPENDS COUGARS, LIGHTNING SURVIVES AT CACC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
5-6-05 Game 6: Goldey-Beacom 8, Wilmington 1 – No. 5 Goldey-Beacom scored four runs each in the third and sixth innings to eliminate sixth-seeded Wilmington (22-23). The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Amanda Mucaria (Newark, DE). The Lightning responded in the bottom of the third with five hits, including a two-run double from Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken, NJ) and a two-run single by Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE). Four straight Goldey-Beacom hits in the bottom of the sixth put the Lightning up 6-1 before Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) singled home a pair of runs to close out the scoring. After allowing two hits and a run in the first inning, Russell surrendered just one hit over the next six innings to pick up her second win of the tournament.
Game 7: Goldey-Beacom 3, Felician 0 – Russell returned to the circle for the Lightning’s second game of the day and shut out third-seeded Felician (22-17), allowing just five hits to improve to 18-8. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two of Goldey-Beacom’s three runs. Andrea Connor (Blandon, PA) scored the only run the Lightning (27-17) would need when she led off the second inning with a double and scored later on a fielder’s choice. Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) went 3-for-4 and singled home Russell in the third inning and again in the fourth.
Game 8: Georgian Court 2, Caldwell 0 – The Lions (28-14) received an outstanding pitching performance from Sherry Keech (Glencoe, Ontario), who scattered six hits and a walk while striking out nine in the complete-game victory. Ashley Wierema (Mundelein, IL) put Georgian Court on the scoreboard in the top of the third, when she singled home Jade Reid (Brampton, Ontario). Reid knocked home an insurance run with a groundout that plated Julie Sito (Elyria, OH) from third. The Cougars (36-9) had runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh after Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY) doubled and Gina D’Amico (Turnersville, NJ) singled. But Keech (21-7) ended the threat with a pop up and strikeout. Pitcher Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ) went the distance for Caldwell, giving up five hits, a walk and one earned run while striking out three. D’Amico (pictured) went 2-for-3 for the Cougars, while Sito did the same to lead Georgian Court.
