COUGARS EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO NINE WITH SWEEP OF DOMINICAN

4-11-05
CC 6, DC 0
CC 5, DC 1
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Sophomore Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic) hit a pair of home runs in the first game, then earned the victory in the circle in the second game as the Caldwell College softball team defeated Dominican College, 6-0 and 5-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon. The Cougars, who have now won nine straight, improved to 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the CACC, while the Chargers fell to 8-12 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first game, when Dahl hit a two-run home run in the first inning that also scored junior Amy Coker (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville). Sophomore Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) singled home junior Sara Neely (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) in the sixth to make the score 3-0. Then in the seventh, Dahl hit her second homer of the day and fourth of the season, scoring Coker and junior Kristi Godfrey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon).

Junior Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) kept the Dominican hitters at bay, allowing just two hits while striking out nine batters and walking none to earn the shutout and improve to 7-3. Christine Stathes went the distance for the Chargers and took the loss.

In the second game, Falkowski followed a second-inning single by freshman Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) with her first home run of the season to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The Chargers would get one run back in the bottom-half of the inning when Brianne Russo's sacrifice fly drove in Katie Farrugia. But the Cougars restored their two-run lead in the top of the third after
junior Gina D'Amico (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp) doubled, then later scored on a wild pitch. Coker singled home junior Kim Birmingham (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) in the fifth, then scored in the seventh on a single by junior Katie Jackson (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) to close out the scoring.

Dahl improved to 7-2 after holding the Chargers to four hits and one walk while fanning nine batters in seven innings. Michelle Bark also pitched seven innings for Dominican in the loss.

The Cougars look to continue their winning ways when they host Post University on Thursday, Apr. 14 in a CACC doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
