JACKSON SELECTED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
4-26-05
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Junior Katie Jackson
(Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) was named
the Division II National Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association for the week ending Apr. 24. Jackson led the
Cougars (29-8, 14-2 CACC), who are ranked 12th in the latest NFCA
Division II Top 25 Poll, to a 6-2 record last week. Jackson, who was
also named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the
Week, becomes the second Cougar to receive the national award.
Sophomore Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic) won the
NFCA National Player of the Week Award last spring.
Jackson went 12-for-17 (.706) with two homers, two doubles, seven runs
scored and five runs batted in. She hit both home runs in a sweep of a
doubleheader against Queens College, including a game-tying solo shot
in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, which the
Cougars went on to win 2-1 in eight innings. A two-time all-CACC and
all-Northeast Region selection, Jackson has a six-game hitting streak
and has hit in 12 of her last 13 games. She is batting .563 with four
home runs and nine RBI during that stretch.
This week the Cougars play home games against Bloomfield College on
Tuesday, Molloy College on Thursday and Bridgeport on Saturday before
closing out the regular season on Sunday at Wilmington.
