PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. - The Caldwell College softball team scored 28 runs en route to a
sweep of a non-conference doubleheader with Philadelphia University
Sunday afternoon. The Cougars, who won 16-0 and 12-2, are now
16-5 on the season, while the Rams are 8-11.
The Cougars whacked 21 hits in a 16-0 victory in the first game, which
was shortened to five innings. Sophomore Anna Dahl (Lindenwold,
NJ/Camden Catholic) and junior Kim Birmingham (Pine Hill,
NJ/Overbrook) (pictured) each belted two-run home runs in the fourth
inning to lead the offense. Birmingham went 3-for-4 with five runs
batted in, while junior Gina D'Amico (Turnersville,
NJ/Washington Twp) went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs
scored. Dahl (6-2) also earned the victory on the mound, allowing four
hits while striking out four in four innings.
In the second game, Caldwell scored four runs in the third inning and
seven runs in the seventh to earn the sweep, 12-2. Dahl had four RBI
and was 2-for 3 from the plate, while freshman Carrie Flasphaler
(Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Freshman Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson)
improved to 4-0 on the season after giving up four hits and two runs
in four innings of work.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, Apr. 11, when they play a
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Dominican
College, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
