COKER, JACKSON LEAD CALDWELL TO SWEEP OF POST

CALDWELL, N.J. - Juniors Amy Coker (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) and Katie Jackson (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) turned in impressive performances at the plate to help the Caldwell College softball team take two from Post University, 3-1 and 9-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars improved to 20-5 overall and 11-1 in the CACC, while the Eagles are 11-14, 4-4.

In the first game, Post took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the second inning. Coker helped get things started in he third inning, following a walk by freshman Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NY, Waterloo) with a single. Sophomore Jackie Velardi then doubled home Speno to tie the game at 1-1. The Cougars took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, when Coker doubled and later scored on a groundout by sophomore Anna Dahl (Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic). The Cougars scored an insurance run when freshman Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) singled home classmate Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) in the bottom of the sixth.

Pitcher Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) went the distance for the Cougars, allowing three hits and walking two while striking out five to improve to 8-3.

The Cougars took control early in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning. Dahl plated Speno and Coker with a single, then sophomore Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) hit a two-run home run, her first of the season, to make it 4-0. After the Eagles scored a run in the top of the third, the Cougars continued to display power at the plate, as Jackson homered in the bottom of the third to restore Caldwell's four-run lead. Post scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3. Junior Gina D'Amico (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp) doubled home pinch-runner Meghan Johnston (Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington) in the fifth. Then in the sixth, Dahl doubled, scoring Coker, and Jackson hit her second two-run home run of the game to close out the scoring.

Dahl improved to 8-2 on the season after giving up five hits and three runs (one earned) while fanning five batters.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Apr. 16, when they play a non-conference doubleheader at Dowling College, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
