SAUNDERS NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

N.J. - Junior Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop
Spaulding) was chosen to the 2005 ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District II Softball Second Team in the College Division, the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced
today. Nominees for the Academic All-District teams, which are
selected by CoSIDA members, must be at least a sophomore with a
grade-point average of 3.2 or better and be a starter or significant
reserve.
Saunders has a 3.802 GPA while majoring in computer science at
Caldwell College. A first-team all-Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference selection as a pitcher, Saunders is 16-5 with an earned run
average of 0.95 heading into this weekend's NCAA Division II Northeast
Region Tournament. Last weekend, Saunders helped the Cougars win the
CACC Tournament for the second year in a row by pitching 16 2/3
innings in two wins on Saturday, May 7 to earn the tourney's MVP
award. She also picked up her second CACC Pitcher of the Week honor
this season on May 9.
Saunders and the Cougars, ranked 11th in the latest National Fastpitch
Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, are the second seed at the Northeast
Region Tournament, held May 12-15 at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.
