CALDWELL SOFTBALL RECEIVES 17TH CONSECUTIVE NATIONAL RANKING
3-9-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team is ranked 16th in the latest
National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, released
yesterday. The ranking marks the 17th straight time the Cougars have
appeared in the national top 25, dating back to the first regular-season
poll of the 2004 season. The Cougars, who were ranked seventh and 22nd in
the past two final rankings, were also 16th in the 2006 preseason poll
released on Feb. 1.
Head coach Dean Johnson returns all but one player from last year's
team that went 40-11 and captured the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
regular-season and tournament titles for the second straight season. Twelve
players on this year's roster also helped Caldwell win the 2004 Northeast
Region Tournament and advance to the Women's College World Series. Caldwell
is led by first team all-CACC and all-Northeast Region
performers Amy Coker (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville), pictured, Anna Dahl
(Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic), Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) and Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop
Spaulding).
The Cougars open the 2006 season in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Rebel Games,
beginning Mar. 18. Their opponents at the Rebel Games include No. 9 Lock
Haven on Mar. 19 and third-ranked Florida Southern on Mar. 22. Caldwell's
first home game is on Saturday, Mar. 25 against CACC-foe Nyack College at
1:00 p.m.
