COUGAR SOFTBALL RANKED 24TH NATIONALLY

N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team is ranked 24th in the latest
National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, released
today. The Cougars return to the top 25 after falling out of the national
rankings in the previous poll on Mar. 22, ending a streak of 17 straight
appearances in the NFCA Top 25 Poll.
After starting the season with a 4-6 record at the Rebel Spring Games in
Kissimmee, Fla., the Cougars have gone 10-2 since, improving their overall
record to 14-8, including a 5-1 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference. Senior outfielder Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) leads the Cougars at the plate, batting .351 with eight
doubles and three home runs so far this season. Senior Jessica Saunders
(Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) is 6-3 with an earned run average of
1.46 to pace Caldwell's pitching staff. Saunders was named the CACC Pitcher
of the Week on Apr. 3 after striking out 39 batters in 29 innings last week.
The two-time defending CACC regular-season and tournament champions,
Caldwell has been ranked as high as 16th in the country this season.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Apr. 6, when they travel to
Philadelphia, Pa., to face Holy Family University in a CACC doubleheader.
The first game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
